The seat at the table in the U.S. Senate is Hazeen’s, and she’s earned every right to it. A policy phenom in fields as diverse as immigration law to telecom, Ashby is crafting the ins and outs of complex legal and regulatory regimes. In her role with the Committee for Commerce, Science, and Technology, she must balance diverse interests while furthering the interests of diversity — a polyvalent challenge that she continues to navigate with tremendous skill.
Hazeen’s Bio:
Hazeen Y. Ashby is the Senior Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. In this capacity, she serves as the Chief Counsel for the Minority Staff under Ranking Member Bill Nelson (D-Fl).
Prior to arriving on the Hill, Ms. Ashby was the Director for Technology & Telecom Policy at the National Urban League. In that role, she monitored policy developments related to technology, telecommunications and the decennial census as well as directed advocacy strategies advancing the Urban League’s legislative agenda in those areas. Before joining the Urban League, Ms. Ashby was the Senior Policy Counsel for the Culture Program at Third Way, a centrist think tank. At Third Way, she specialized in immigration policy. Prior to Third Way, Ms. Ashby was the Associate Director of Student Chapters at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS), where she managed the programming and growth of ACS’s nationwide network of law student chapters.
Ms. Ashby earned her J.D. from the Howard University School of Law and her Bachelor’s degree in Social Policy from Northwestern University.
